SOCIALLY DISTANCED
BENCH
UNIVERSITY PROJECT
This piece was produced in response to a live brief set by Gordon Russell and William Hands. The brief was to create a piece of furniture linked to COVID-19, with the design drawing inspiration from the propensity for hexagonal shapes in nature, which are incredibly strong. The angular qualities of the raised hexagons inherently lend themselves to defining social distancing boundaries since they are so uncomfortable to sit on. I believe the use of natural designs is extremely pertinent because nature is ultimately the source of the pandemic. This bench was made by combining over 200 hexagons.
